Is Upstream Generation Co-op faith based?
Yes, we believe there is only one God, we believe in his infallible Word, the Bible. Our Co-op will be looking at ways to always be honoring Him.
If I’m not a Christ believer, can I join Upstream Generation?
All are welcome! However, our believes and faith will be taking a front seat in our learning. If you are open to be learning more about Jesus, and the bible, please come and join us. I promise you will feel the love right away.
What kind of Co-op is Upstream Generation?
Upstream Generation is a Unit Study based Co-op. We meet once a week at end of the week, and explore what the kids have learned at home. Every time we meet, we will immerse the kids into some sort of activity, instilling on them what they have learned throughout the week. For example: one day, at our co-op, we might teach the kids how to cook an authentic type of food of the continent they learned. Another week we might have a hands on project on how to create a solar system, or dissect a cow’s heart to learn about parts of the human body. We will also, take at least once per unit, a field trip related to the unit being studied. Check out our calendar and see what we have planned for next school year.
What are Unit Studies?
Unit studies are segments of a specific theme. Inside that theme we dig deeper into each subject. The curriculum is designed to cover all subject but math for every grade level. If your child is just learning to read, or if they are finishing up with High School, you can use the same unit at different levels with each child. The beauty of unit studies is that you can learn grammar, spelling, writing, art, reading & comprehension, geography, science, social studies, history and bible all in the same curriculum without having to add complicated and time consuming programs to your everyday schedule. It is all there, every 5 weeks we change the unit and we get to learn something different in a fun way!
What are the ages of Upstream Generation Co-op?
All ages are welcome! Since the co-op is based on hands on, we will be doing activities together. You and your child get to spend time doing a project, learning with their peers and along with other moms.
Does the parent need to stay with the child/children on Co-op days?
Yes, this is truly a co-op, meaning parents are asked to help with their kids. Think of your day at co-op as a day to bond together and created memories doing something fun! You don’t need to plan, or schedule anything, we are doing all the heavy lifting. You come and enjoy what homeschooling is all about.
Does the tuition cover the curriculum?
No, the curriculum being used on 2022/2023 is Gather’ round, you are welcome to purchase the curriculum on the website, at your own discretion. You may choose to do a bundle or one unit at time. If you choose to buy the digital version,
Upstream Generation will be offering to print the books for you at a minimal price.
Upstream Generation Tuition is being kept at a minimum to help everyone who has multiple kids or is simply on a budget. We don’t want money to keep you from joining our co-op. Ultimately, tuition covers their day at co-op! It includes facility fee, insurance and basic
supplies. When we do something above the tuition cost, like field trips, dissections, etc. that will be charged separately ahead of time.
This is my first year homeschooling my children, will UpStream Generation help me with the first steps?
Absolutely, we are here to help and give you necessary tips on where to look for resources. The idea of Upstream Generation Co-op is not only to give the kids a community but also the parents. Although, we are not an accredited school, we will share our knowledge and experiences making this a smooth transition to all homeschool families.
Will my children have time to socialize with other kids?
Yes! Our idea is to create a community where we get to be more than acquaintances, we want to create friendships that will last.
Besides Co-op days will we have other events?
Besides our days at co-op, we will be doing field trips together and celebrations on special occasion throughout the year. We will also have a day, at the end of every five weeks, to go to the library, and gather books on our next unit.
We are also looking to build a network with other homeschool channels to give you opportunities to engage on what your child likes. Our goal is to have multiple outlets of things your child can do as a homeschooler. More information to come.
Do I need anything else?
Although Gather’ round is a well versed comprehensive curriculum, you are the ultimate teacher. You choose what you want to add or subtract from your child’s education. Every child is unique, some might required more time with spelling, others might need more math practice. Or you might be in a season that less is more. That is up to you! However, with gather’ round you ultimately do not need to add anything extra to fulfill the curriculum.
